The way you present yourself to an employer determines almost exclusively your chances of getting a job. However, until you reach the point of talking to a recruiter, you have to make sure you get the interview through an impeccable resume.
A recruiter who reads hundreds of daily applications allocates little time to each resume when making a first selection.
You should remove the following information from the curriculum vitae and the chances of being selected considerably increase:
- Irrelevant experience
- Hobbies
- Obvious lies
- Too much text
A resume that has more than two pages, possibly written in a font smaller than 11 and narrow margins, with large text paragraphs, could be dropped, especially if there is a large stack (even electronic) of other applications.
- Unprofessional email address
- Any obvious or unnecessary word
- Specific jargon of the company you are currently working on
- Links to social media accounts, irrelevant for the job
Bonus! Mistakes in resume that can make recruiters to ignore you
- You focus more on responsibilities than on achievements
- You send the same resume, regardless of job
- The used format and font make reading difficult: colors, photos, artistic fonts etc.
- You use cliché words or phrases: leadership, exceptional communicator, best, result oriented, responsible for, ambitious, teamwork, Microsoft Office, PC knowledge
