8 Information To Remove From Your Resume Right Away

The way you present yourself to an employer determines almost exclusively your chances of getting a job. However, until you reach the point of talking to a recruiter, you have to make sure you get the interview through an impeccable resume.

A recruiter who reads hundreds of daily applications allocates little time to each resume when making a first selection.

You should remove the following information from the curriculum vitae and the chances of being selected considerably increase:

An outdated resume is almost worthless. Recruiters need relevant, up-to-date information because they work with such data. Consider deleting from your resume a summer job you had 10 years ago, especially if it is not related to the field and position you are currently looking for. A common sense suggestion is to read once again every piece of information you have written and ask yourself if it makes your resume more useful and more impactful.

In most cases, hobbies are so personal that you do not have to mention them in a resume. If your interests are not relevant to the job you are considering, then the recruiter may think he has lost time reading this information. Moreover, you can use the space allocated to them to provide details about past job performance, relevant courses, or simply shorten your resume.

It’s self-understood that you should not lie in your resume. The “adjustment” does not mean listing any courses you haven’t attended or suspicious achievements that can be verified.

A resume that has more than two pages, possibly written in a font smaller than 11 and narrow margins, with large text paragraphs, could be dropped, especially if there is a large stack (even electronic) of other applications.

kitty@yahoo.com, nebunaticul36@gmail.com or other email addresses of this kind may make you seem untrustworthy. It’s free, fast and recommended to make an email address such as firstname.lastname@email.com.

A resume free of unnecessary words will become more attractive. Remove words like Phone in front of the phone number or email address. The format of the two types of contact is recognized everywhere.

Each company may have specific titles or terms used internally, but them may not be relevant to someone outside. Avoid such terms or replace them with phrases / words that anyone in the market understands.

List on your resume, if you think it helps, the link to your LinkedIn account where you have detailed projects, abilities, or volunteering periods. Personal blog, Instagram account, Pinterest page or Facebook page don’t have nothing to do with your resume for as long as they are not relevant to the position.
